Coffee Parties continued throughout holidays! Thanks, Jayne!
Zoom Coffee Hour continues on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Sundays after Church. We invite you to join your KUC friends and perhaps meet new people.
(Scroll down to read about KUC’s host .. and join our next Coffee Party on Thursday, Jan. 6th at 11 am.)
And we’re grateful that these continued throughout the holidays! (Including a New Year’s Eve one!)
This message came from our/your host, Jayne Martin*, when asked if there would be online gatherings over the holidays. Jayne says: “I will continue to host the coffee times after church on Sundays at 11:15 a.m. and on Tuesdays and on Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. throughout the holidays. We felt a tremendous sense of community when”… we were able to help provide support and comfort to each other as we meet challenges in our lives. “So, I think in their own special and unique way, our coffee parties support a necessary ministry.” “It is my absolute pleasure.”

* Jayne is part of our online community, hosting these Coffee Parties from Calgary. Jane also sits on the KUC Council and is part of our Zoom worship community each Sunday. Here’s an interesting bit of information on how Jayne came to be part of our KUC congregation:
“At Thanksgiving, in 2019, I began receiving emails from Kamloops United Church, welcoming me to Sunday Worship. While this was very friendly, it was also a bit odd, in that I lived in Calgary and had only visited Kamloops twice in my life. It turned out that due to a case of mistaken identity, my email address had been physically added to KUC’s email distribution list. So first, I began receiving weekly invitations to join Worship Services and then the newsletters started arriving in my inbox.
Of course, once Covid hit, I also began receiving Rev. Dr. Michael Caveney’s daily meditations. So one day, out of both boredom and curiosity, I decided to watch one. As you are all aware, Michael is the ultimate storyteller, and I was instantly hooked.
Then, I had what my old church secretary called my “Saul” moment, where God called me to join KUC virtually. I remember saying to God, “But I don’t even know if this is possible.” So, I emailed Michael to inquire, and a couple of days later, he sent me back a very thoughtful reply welcoming me.
Living in Calgary, while being a member of KUC, I wanted to contribute to the ministry of KUC, albeit from afar.
I saw the vacancies on Council Circle, which piqued my interest, but once again, I said to God, “But I don’t even know if this is possible.” The next thing I knew, at 10:00 p.m. on April 01, 2021, I was filled with the Spirit and emailed my application to Marcia.
Marcia wrote back thanking me and advising that I had provided them with a very interesting and unique opportunity. I am delighted that you have accepted my nomination to Council Circle. Thank you, KUC! Blessings, Jayne Martin”
