Vigil: Sat. Nov.20 @ 6 at TRU
Kamloops United Church is a Two-Spirit & LGBTQIA* Affirming congregation.
This Saturday, November 20, is the International Trans Day of Remembrance. Since its inception in 1999 the Trans Day of Remembrance, also known as Transgender Day of Remembrance, (TDoR), is observed every November. It is a day on which trans and gender-diverse people who have been victims of homicide are remembered. Started in the US, TDoR is now held in many parts of the world.https://www.thetrevorproject.org/
People and organisations around the world mobilise to counter the transphobia and anti-trans violence that gender diverse people face every day. For TDoR 2021, we are invited to amplify trans voices, commit to concrete actions, highlight resources and perspectives, and to work for trans rights. Locally this year, Kamloops Pride has partnered with TRUSU Pride to host a vigil where the community can come and pay their respects. The vigil will be held on Saturday November 20, 2021 at 6pm, and it will be at TRU in front of the Campus Activity Centre. They will be handing out trans* flag stickers, small flags, and there will be LED candles for everyone to use. This is a standing event, however there will be chairs available for those who need them. Please ensure you have comfortable shoes and warm clothing. Allies are welcome and encouraged to attend this event! Please feel free to reach out to Kamloops Pride via email at info@kamloopspride.com if you have any questions.
