Honouring Métis Peoples ~ note, photos, link & gift.
Sunday, November 14th, we celebrated Louis Riel Day and commemorated Métis History and Culture in Canada. We were blessed with an excellent opportunity to take a step forward with Reconciliation by learning more about one of the three Indigenous Peoples of Canada.
Prayers were offered by Métis Elder Patrick Savard of the Michif Elder’s Council at Lii Michif Optipemisiwak (LMO) in Kamloops.
Métis Elder Sandi Hendry, a member of the “Elder In Residence” program at Thompson Rivers University, presented a History and Culture portion of the service.
Tomas Bijok, KUC Music Director, lead the hymns and Dr. Caveney offered the reflection titled “Uncovered”.
The Two Rivers Métis Society gifted KUC with the book “KAA-WIICHIHITOYAAHK” / ‘We take care of each other’ which is shown in one of the pictures.
This service was live on YouTube Sunday morning at 10:00am.
