Helping Those in Poorer Countries with Acquisition of Covid Vaccines
Amnesty International (AI) has brought to our attention the desperate need of Covid vaccines for the poorer countries. Rich and developed countries, including Canada, have been able to vaccinate the majority of their citizens, and still hold stockpiles of vaccines. But in poorer countries, particularly in Africa and the Middle East, sometimes only 1% of the population has been vaccinated. Plus the infrastructure to distribute what vaccines are available, is usually inadequate. AI suggests that there are enough stockpiled vaccines world-wide to vaccinate 40% of the population of the world’s poorest nations. Thus AI has launched a letter-writing campaign to Prime Minister Trudeau urging Canada to demonstrate leadership in upholding human rights to health, and suggesting several ways that Canada could act to address the lack of global access to vaccines. AI has provided a template letter if you are interested/willing to send such correspondence to the Prime Minister.
Please contact the KUC Office to be put in touch with a KUC member who can provide the template letter and encourage you to act.
