Take Back the Night is Back Again! (Sept. 23-25)
Dear Membership and Partners,
Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre is excited to share that we are hosting a series of events in support of Take Back the Night! Take Back the Night is a global movement that stands up against sexual violence. Women and other marginalized genders deserve to feel safe at night. On the street, in bars and restaurants and nightclubs, in our homes, and everywhere else, every person has the right to safety.
This year, instead of the traditional outdoor march we’ve held in years past, we are offering a number of community events. Our goal is to engage with folks in different settings, and to take up space and advocate for safety in all environments. Here’s what we’re planning:
September 23: Pub Trivia Night at Bright Eye Brewing
September 24: Burlesque Showcase with Kamloops Burlesque at the Effie Arts Collective
September 25: Farmers’ Market Collaborative Art Project
We invite you to join us for any and all of the events. Please feel free to circulate the information with your networks! Tickets for the trivia night and burlesque showcase can be found here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/o/34074015085 [Trivia tickets are very nearly already sold out (wow!), but we are hoping to add some more tables, so stay tuned for that.] Tickets are still available for the burlesque show, and join us at your convenience at the Farmers’ Market!
We know that this past year and a half has been hard: for clients, for staff, and for our entire community. We don’t want to make it harder or riskier. KSACC is committed to ensuring the safety of our supporters, and will be following all recommendations and orders given by the Provincial Health Office and regional health officers. This means that access to the indoor events will require proof of vaccination, and there will be a robust safety plan in place. As excited as we are to be in person and doing public advocacy again, our top priority is the health and safety of everyone involved.
Help us stand up for safety and challenge rape culture in Kamloops by attending Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre’s Take Back the Night events!
