Rick at Tk’emlups te Secwepemc Pow Wow Grounds
The last two days have been pretty incredible for me. I have had the honour and privilege of wearing a PIT Stop apron as I volunteered at the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc Pow Wow grounds helping to cook and serve food for displaced evacuees, volunteers, caring band members, and fire fighters. They are serving 3 meals every day and are doing it because it’s what human beings do for other human beings.
I’m attaching pictures of some of the amazing people that are absolutely front line. The work that these folks are doing is so genuinely appreciated by so many that are welcomed and cared for with nourishment. All are volunteers. All just want to help. (See the PIT Stop Facebook page for more photos.)
I also had a couple of my fellow Rotary members come by to say hi!
A sign up list is being worked on right now but if you can help with this (sometimes inglorious work of washing pots and pans) work, just let me know and I will get you in touch with the right person.
Lastly, I don’t have a picture, but in the last two days at about 7:30 pm, we have had a group (team) of firefighters come by for dinner. They are weary to say the least. They are blackened with the labor of what they are doing. They have dropped to the ground exhausted, but every one of them has a megawatt smile. They have said that they are so grateful for the food they get. I wonder if they know just how grateful we are!
