One Summer Job Posting and One Five Month Part-Time Position for KUC: May 17 Deadline
There are two available positions for summer work at Kamloops United Church: an Online Sales Position and a Sewing Position. Please see the criteria for each position below:
1. ONLINE MARKETING AND SALES
Responsibility and Accountability: This role is accountable to and takes direction from the
Kamloops United Church Administrative Manager.
Regular Hours: This position is part time 13 hours per week with the hours per day as
scheduled by the Administrative Manager for 22 weeks starting in May 2021.
Compensation: $15.35 per hour.
Vacation: Vacation is paid based on hours worked which is 4%.
Sick Leave: One (1) day/month sick leave, prorated to hours worked.
Benefits: Benefits include WCB.
JOB STATEMENT:
Online Marketing and Sales will provide support for the Kamloops United Church Thrift Shop’s
(hereafter called Thrift Shop) online sales under the supervision of the Administrative Manager.
When at work, the individual in this position is the voice and face of KUC for those who contact
the church by telephone, e-mail or in person. The individual in this position provides appropriate
information when requested and assists as much as possible and recognizes that all who enter
our church and office are to experience a welcoming and inclusive church. Demonstrate an
understanding of and empathy for marginalized individuals and issues related to poverty.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Create a business plan for the online sale of recycled clothing and small housewares. .
2. Create communications plan to coordinate with Thrift Shop volunteers and church staff.
3. Design and create flyers to be included with items sold (promoting the Thrift Shop,
community activities and social justice initiatives under the direction of the church staff).
4. Choose items to sell then stage and photograph them.
5. Post items on appropriate online sales platforms.
6. Catalogue sale items so that church volunteers can find the items easily when the
purchaser arrives.
7. Promote the Thrift Shop on social media platforms.
8. Liaison with appropriate programs in Kamloops to create ongoing relationships with
youth, recycling and or social activism initiatives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft office and Google suites.
2. Ability to research and make suggestions as to what organizations to liaison.
3. Adept at using social media platforms.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Self starter who takes direction well.
2. Creative abilities.
3. 360 view of the project as a whole and able to discern the next tasks to be completed.
4. Able to display enthusiasm.
5. Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communications skills.
6. Willingness to learn to speak in public and make cold calls.
7. Diplomatic and tactful in dealing with others, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
8. High level of organizational skills.
Additional Requirements:
1. Satisfactory Criminal Record check.
2. Participation in ongoing workshops and seminars.
3. Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
4. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has
been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the
employment.
5. Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled
to work in BC.

2. DOMESTIC SEWING MACHINE OPERATOR (2)

Regular Hours: This position is full time 30 hours per week with the hours per day as
scheduled by the Administrative Manager for 8 weeks in the summer of 2021.
Compensation: $15.35 per hour.
Vacation: Vacation is paid based on hours worked which is 4%.
Sick Leave: One (1) day/month sick leave, prorated to hours worked.
Benefits: Benefits include all statutory holidays and WCB.
JOB STATEMENT:
This position provides planning and execution of the creation of Cloth Masks and Cloth Bags
from recycled fabric.
When at work, the individual in this position is the voice and face of Kamloops United Church for
those who contact the church by telephone, e-mail or in person. The individual in this position
provides appropriate information when requested and assists as much as possible and
recognizes that all who enter our church and office are to experience a welcoming and inclusive
church.
1. Create and distribute reusable cloth masks out of donated items.
2. Increase awareness of Kamloops United Church Thrift Shop through social media.
3. Create a media plan to promote innovations.
4. Liaison with appropriate programs in Kamloops to create ongoing relationships with
youth, recycling and or social activism initiatives.
5. Source additional recycled materials.
6. Promote awareness of the program.
7. Support the office with the admin. tasks as needed.

1. Basic sewing skills or willingness to learn.
2. Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft office suite.
3. Ability to research and make suggestions as to what organizations to liaison.
