Affirming News for May 16
It’s less than a week until Kamloops United Church celebrates their 25th anniversary of officially becoming an Affirming community of faith. As well as our special Affirmiversary worship planned for May 16, when we will take a look back at the last thirty years of our Affirming journey, there are a couple of webinars mid- week that you won’t want to miss. These are wonderful opportunities for every member of our Kamloops United family to learn more as we look ahead to our next twenty-five years Affirming years. Please join us!
On Wednesday, May 12 at 1 pm, we are very fortunate to have Danyel Haughton presenting: “Affirming Language 101: Vocab for LGBTQ2S+ Inclusion”.
Danyel will cover some of the language, vocabulary and usage with a focus on creating a safe space for all. The important conversations are enhanced when we better understand the language. Being Public, Intentional and Explicit as an Affirming community requires us to become more comfortable with the language: using it appropriately, understanding the impact, and knowing what to do if we inevitably make a mistake.
This workshop is for everyone!
The webinar will be from 1 pm-2 pm with time for Q & A at the end. This session will not be recorded.

“How to be a Better Ally”
We will examine LGBTQ2S+ Allyship in both the context of what the people of Kamloops United can do as individuals, and how Kamloops United as a community of faith can better respond.
This workshop is for everyone! The webinar will be from 1 pm- 2pm with time for Q & A at the end.
