Council Circle Connections: February, 2021
Hello from Council Circle!
Your Council Circle met, via Zoom on Tuesday February 23 – a week later than usual due to the Congregational Financial meeting and Budget approval. Between the late meeting and the short month, my report is being scribed in March!
Each month we invite a ministry group to join us for a few min. This gives Council insight to what the group is doing and the opportunity to offer support. Jan Vint and Diane Stuart reported on the work of Global and Community Action and are hoping to have a showing available of a very interesting documentary on Homelessness. This will be announced over the next while.
It is always of interest to me how we can easily fill 2 hours of meeting with relevant discussion about the workings of the church! We received some lovely reports back that the Council Circle valentines were very well received and it definitely brought a smile to our faces to figure out a “heart-felt” way to connect with the congregation again!
As we move into March and the month of celebrating our 25 years of Affirm Ministry, we heard about the “drive-by” tart event for P.I.E. (public, intentional and explicit!) Day on March 13 with service to follow on March 14th. Just as an aside, Chris Dolson as Chair of the Affirm Ministry and member of Council Circle was asked to speak at a Zoom meeting entitled “Adding Sparkle to your Rainbow” hosted by the National Church on February 25th. It was truly an honour for KUC to be so recognized and Chris did an outstanding job of bringing our history and current activities forward. Thank you, Chris!
In looking to the future, Council spent significant time discussing the impressive expansion of our Community of Faith to the on-line people who participate. As mentioned previously, there is often in the neighbourhood of 300+ people who view the services. Carole Hutchings led us in a good discussion about how we need to think about Hospitality in light of the current trend, and likely future of our on-line Ministry. Talk involved having a “Newcomers Zoom” and membership classes this Spring.
We also spent considerable time discussing feedback from the Financial meeting and looking at the development of a Narrative budget. It has been a challenging year and any input from the congregation is welcomed and considered.
There is much to be thankful for! Please take a moment to have some prayerful thinking about what we could be like when we return. Are there things that should end at KUC? Are there things we should do more of? We will look forward to hearing from you over the next number of months.
Council Circle makes a point of taking time to hear what is happening in and around the church. It is our great privilege to be in this role and we are always happy to hear from the congregation on what is going well and what needs improvement.
As always, our meetings are busy and full! If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Michael, Florence or myself. We’d be pleased to help in any way.
Blessings,
Marcia
Chair
