Happy New Year! 2021 | Kamloops United Church

We wish everyone a Happy New Year 2021. Most people are relieved to have left 2020 behind although we do admit that there were many blessings and happy times too before the pandemic arrived and even during the dark months living with the worry and fear of COVID-19. There were wonders, heroism, leadership and creativity, communities sharing and reaching out to care for others, amazing generosity in support of the charitable organizations. Gratitude, resilience and love abound.

Sadly there has also been tragedy with so many deaths, with loss of social programs that support those with special needs and loss of health and wellness programs as well as cultural and religious gatherings. Our congregation has lost several much loved members and family members and it has been hard being unable to hold gatherings to remember them and share our grief with each other.

The leadership by those who work at Kamloops United — Rev.Dr. Michael Caveney, Florence Ballard, Rick Windjack, Dan Hines, Joanna Brown, Tomas Bijok, Bill Paul and custodians Ignacio, Jim, and Dawn has been remarkable not only through covid 2020 but also the earlier months of 2020 when things were normal. Those who enabled the online technical support: broadcast and sound technicians, musicians Cindy Darwin, Don and Marg Waldon, Gordon Britton and numerous others have been our covid gifts. Council Circle, the Pastoral Care Team, the Worship & Music Group and many behind the scene volunteers have kept Kamloops United strong. Thank you also to Patti Pernitsky of the KUC Preschool who has maintained the day care for the children of health care workers and also to former office staff and custodial in the earlier months of the year.
