On Sunday, we began the four Sundays of Advent which have traditionally been seen as a time of preparation for Christmas. The theme for Advent this year is “I believe even when…”
Christmas this year will be different for many of us. How do we as Christians keep the faith during these days of Covid? Do we expect God to come and be present in our world and in our lives? The theme is drawn from the opening line of a poem which was found scribbled by a Jewish man in a cellar in an interment camp. Throughout the services of advent, be listening for the words “I believe even when…” sung or spoken.
The is week’s sermon title was, “I Believe in Hope for Tomorrow.” The scripture readings were taken from the prophet Isaiah and the first chapter of the Gospel of Mark. Tomas Bijok provided the music, including singing Advent carols: “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”, “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming” and “All Earth is Waiting”.
