Invitation From Spiritual Coordinator, Dan Hines
The Heart of Christianity. What is at the heart of a Christian life?
The response may include several possibilities: faith, being born again, the kingdom of God, the gospel of love. These are as important today as they have always been, even during this time of pandemic andsocial change.
As today’s thinking Christians, we can rediscover a life of faith by taking a deeper look at familiar beliefs. Being “born again”, for example, is not limited to fundamentalism’s definition, but is a call to radical personal transformation. Talking about the kingdom of God does not mean that you are fighting against secularism, but that you have committed your life to the divine values of justice and love. Living the true Christian way is essentially about opening one’s heart—to God, and to others.
Join us for two consecutive 90 minute sessions to reconsider what is essential to being a Christian in today’s world. Each session will begin with 30 minutes of teaching; this will be recorded. The following time will be open discussion in small groups and in the larger circle.
Dan Hines, Spiritual Coordinator at Kamloops United Church, will guide these linked sessions. Dan is an Anglican priest and community leader. He often describes his vocation as being at the place where mysticism meets activism. He wonders what following Jesus means in the midst of complex social issues and contemporary thinking.
