Three New Lives for Old Chancel!
The old chancel gets three new lives!!! by Florence Ballard
While we wait for the new flooring, I wanted to let you know what happened to the old chancel. It has new life in three different ways.
Some of you know how well built the risers, that made up the old chancel, were. They were very solid and heavy. We really wanted them to have another life so Kiara (one of the summer students) put them on kijiji for us. The result was three takers. One is Western Canada Theater. They took 1/3rd of the risers that were the exact dimensions they needed. The second 1/3rd of the risers went to a local man who will break them down and use the materials for a project he has on the go. The last 1/3rd of the risers has gone to Chief Atahm School (which is a Secwepemc immersion school in Chase). They are doing some outdoor programming and the tall risers are perfect for their plan.
We are thrilled that our old chancel is being used in three terrific new ways!
Actually I did hold back one piece… There was a small riser that is perfect for a conductor’s platform. I don’t know when we will use it but I have it tucked away and am ready to whip it out at the perfect moment. Don’t you love ‘a perfect moment’? Sometimes you have to wait with faith for a long time but then when it happens… Wonderful!!
