Council Circle Connections
Council Circle Connections
It’s hard to believe that we are in the last few days of our usual summer! Although nothing is “usual” any more in these times! We’re hoping that you have had a safe and healthy summer, enjoying weather, gardens, family and friends!
In spite of our inability to meet in person, Council Circle had agreed to have an extraordinary meeting at the end of August to discuss the possibility of an opening of the church later in the fall. We had heard that a number of you have been connecting, informally, in parks and other outdoor venues, in order to nurture our togetherness in our faith community. We understand that there is a longing to be together again, and it is Council Circle’s reponsibility to discuss and debate about how that will be possible. Even though on Zoom and from different parts of the country, we are still able to feel very connected and our discussions are all-inclusive and fulsome!
After much prayerful dialogue, debate, reviewing of both Pacific Mountain Region directions and those of the BC Government, and hearing a possible plan from Florence and Michael, we have decided that we will set a date of Sunday October 4, 2020 as our goal for opening. This date will be reviewed at our September 15 Council Circle meeting.
Having said that, there is much to do before that occurs.
Between now and then, Florence and Michael will be developing a comprehensive plan for starting up. This will also include finalizing a way to live stream the services from the Sanctuary, so that individuals can watch from the safety and comfort of their homes. The hope is that the live stream will start as of Sunday, September 13, 2020.
Primarily, there is communication to all of you about the process. To be absolutely clear, things will not be returning to what they were previously. Masks, distancing, and hand sanitizing will be mandatory. A maximum of 50 people will be allowed into the building at any one time – this is inclusive of the ministerial and music leadership, staff (at least two) and any participants involved in the service. More information will be following over the next few weeks. Please stay tuned!
As a further update, and something to eagerly anticipate, our Sanctuary improvements have been progressing…….beautifully!! We now have freshly painted walls (think gorgeous greens!) and a newly constructed chancel that will hold our Pulpit, Communion table, Baptismal font, organ, piano and choir members! It is even adaptable for space for our beloved Bells! Thanks to the work of the Chancel Challenge committee for their creativity and input!
As always, it was a busy and full meeting! If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Michael, Florence or myself. We’d be pleased to help in any way.
Blessings,
Marcia
