New Policies: Alcohol, Gaming
Last fall questions came to Council Circle which indicated that KUC did not have written policies on alcohol or gaming. It is important that Council Circle establish limitations on these two topics to give the Management Team (MT) what they need to write policy for user groups.
MT researched what other churches are doing, what the United Church of Canada requires of us, and how it would affect groups like AA/NA. All this took several months.
We decided that wine, for example, could be a nice addition for celebrations like KUC members’ anniversaries or weddings held at the church. The policy that MT developed requires that all events must be approved in advance and that licensing and certification requirements are met. KUC On Site Alcohol Use Policy
Gaming on the other hand will not be allowed at KUC. Policy has been written to set parameters on what is and is not allowed in the building. For example, a silent auction would be okay but a 50/50 draw would continue not to be allowed. In addition, we decided not to reject grants that come to us indirectly from gaming. For example, if a donation came in for PIT Stop from a group that did some fundraising, we would not need to audit their fundraising. We respect their efforts and accept the donation with gratitude.

Both policies will be closely monitored and modifications made if necessary. The two policies are located on “Who We Are” page on the website, under “KUC’s Guiding Documents”.
