Letter from PIT Stop Coordinator
Hi Everyone
I just want to bring all of you up to date on what is happening with our PIT Stop meals every Sunday.
We have resumed providing hot meals for our community but are doing them in a ‘takeaway’ format only for now. We will keep our menus fairly simple and will cook food that can easily be put in containers – such as stews, chili. pasta & sauce, and those types. We are using the dining hall as a large prep area and have the ability to keep work stations separate from each other. We are also getting some assistance from another volunteer group called Meal Train who are distributing the bags of food on the alley as our guests arrive. This also means that we are requiring fewer volunteers in our building on Sundays.
We are closely following all safety protocols including wearing masks, which I have for our volunteers. We had an excellent afternoon last Sunday making a pasta & meat sauce dinner and even though we have had to change some of the way that we did the meal, it still was a ton of fun!
We are looking for some helping hands. Sunday, May 10 is Mother’s Day. We don’t have anyone lined up for that day yet but we would like to have about 12 – 14 people helping. Please let me know if you are able to help. As always, once the roster is filled I will have to start declining offers to help as we want to stay with minimum but realistic numbers for volunteers. We will start a little earlier, 11:30 and as the clean up is so much easier without all the plates and cutlery, we will likely finish a bit earlier as well.
Thanks very much. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Rick W.
