I would like to thank everyone for their support in the YouTube Meditations ministry. As of Thursday afternoon, there had been over 3,500 views of the Kamloops United Church YouTube Channel over the past couple of weeks. I hope that you will join us!
There is something you can do to help this ministry. When you go to the Kamloops United Church YouTube Channel to view a video, would you click subscribe. We currently have 60+ subscribers. If we get to 100 subscribers it means that I can use my mobile phone to “film” the meditations and services. Until then, I have to use a computer. Using a phone will mean we can be portable and film from different locations.
I also want to thank everyone for their emails. It is just wonderful to hear from you and also to share with you in the challenges that many are facing at the moment. I also thank you for those emails of encouragement and support.
Even though, Florence, our church manager, and I are not working in the church building, it doesn’t mean we aren’t working. A big thank you to Florence for everything she has done to see that all is safe and sound with our building, helping with tech support as we move online, co-ordinating office and maintenance staff work, handling publicity, and answering many questions from those who use our facilities. All this done with a wonderful spirit of encouragement and positive attitude…and a big smile!
Besides pulling together the daily meditations, I have been involved in a number of online training sessions which the United Church is offering for ministers at this time. All ministers are saying that the technology learning curve has been a steep one, but I am one who enjoys learning new technology and seeing how it can be incorporated into the ongoing life of the congregation.
I am not going to offer anything pastoral here, as you have the daily meditations for that. I will echo the comments that many of my colleagues are making and that is that this is a time which is going to change the way in which we are church. At Kamloops United, while we are dealing with COVID-19 as it affects us today, we are also beginning to ask ourselves what are the learnings that we can glean now which will strengthen our ministry after COVID-19.
In closing, I want to thank everyone who has helped the smooth transition of Kamloops United’s ministry to meet the new challenges we are facing.
Blessings and peace,
