2019 Aids Sunday at KUC (photos)
The First Sunday of Advent and also World Aids Day was December 1st. This was a very special worship service deeply enriched by the music. The Kamloops Pride Choir, directed by Tomas Bijok were the special guests. Their offering of “The Sound of Silence” was beautiful and gentle and gifted many of us with heartfelt tears. “A Million Dreams” was equally wonderful. The Choir was presented with a financial gift from the congregation of KUC to support their work and to express our deepest thanks for their presence with us.
Lisa Purvis, Community Health Educator and Health Navigator with ASK Wellness (formerly AIDS Kamloops) offered a very informative presentation about the past and current world reality of HIV and Aids. There were other highlights too! Levi led us into worship with a piano prelude “Zen Mode” by Torrin Borrowdale. The first candle was lit — the candle of Hope — to begin Advent, four weeks of preparation for the coming of the Christ child.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making World Aids Day and the First Sunday of Advent so special on so many levels.
