“Imagine!”
Final Presbytery Report:
Imagine! was the theme of the final meeting of Kamloops-Okanagan Presbytery, held in Salmon Arm late in October.
KUC Presbyters Rev Bruce Comrie, Maia Walker and Carole Hutchings, joined by Martha Ashbaugh, Rev Dawne Taylor and past presbyter, Marie Allen, attended the whole event.
Hospitality at First United was superb, with balloons aplenty to help create the celebration atmosphere. Threaded throughout the weekend were memories of people and significant events since the beginning of Presbytery in 1925.
Jay Olsen, President of the BC Conference (Pacific Mountain Regional Council) shared her insights on the current and future of the United Church of Canada. The new Regional Council will meet in May 2019 at a place yet to be determined, as is who will attend.
In the near future, Clusters have been determined to group Communities of Faith and we met with the other churches in Kamloops, Barriere, Clearwater, Merrit, Ashcroft and Lillooet. We agreed that continued connections with each other are a priority for the coming year, and imagined visiting each other’s churches, probably for worship and then enjoying a meal together to allow time for discussion.
Other opportunities to gather within our region are planned. Youth and Young Adult, four events in 2019, plus one for all on “Radical Hospitality – Welcoming the Stranger” at First United Church in Kelowna on February 23, 2019. Watch for more information!
