Council Circle – February Report
Probably the best way to mark the highlights of another enriching month at KUC is to name some of them. The Narrative Budget culminating in a Celebration Luncheon on February 18th was a remarkable time of sharing stories both from speakers at the worship services to a compilation of wonderful stories shared in a booklet “Beyond The Numbers”. The Stewardship Group who shepherded us through the process did amazing work bringing the program to fruition. I would like to express our gratitude to Ross, Ray, Ron R, Bruce, Gail and Florence. Soon, on March 17th we will have another outstanding opportunity to enrich our worship life and individual spiritual discovery at the Theological Banquet with guest speaker Rev. Janet Gear. We give thanks to the Discovery Circle for spearheading this event.
It was great to have participation by KUC folks at the MMIW Walk, the Theatre for Living play “Home” at TRU (as volunteers and audience), the Lenten Challenge, the Camp Grafton Society AGM. Thank you to Janet E. and Sharon R. for stepping up to organize The World Day of Prayer held at KUC on March 2. Thank you to everyone who lent their leadership to these and numerous other events at the church this month.
At the national level the work of implementing the remit voting continues at a rapid pace. The Regional Boundaries Plan (Remit #1) is now complete. Our Council sent feedback to the national implementation committee supporting a change in the BC plan and we are relieved that a revision will create one region for BC rather than two. We have received confirmation that *Remit #6, One Order of Ministry was not approved at the national level. For your information the KUC Council voted in favor of Remit #6. Keep up to date with the Online Forum & Blog for Information on the Implementation of the Remits. See KUC website for the link.
This month Council Circle and Discovery Circle met together to review the history and implementation of Kamloops United Church ~ A Centre for Community and Spiritual Discovery. We recognize that there may still be confusion for some about how this all works. Discovery Circle members will be leading worship on March 18th and hope to provide an opportunity for you to hear more about how a church can also be a center….
Remember to let Council Circle know if you have a question, or concern. We have had recent reminders that as a downtown church we must always be mindful of security of our belongings when in the building.
The storytellers who enlivened us this month spoke often about the welcoming friendliness they feel entering our space at KUC – to all who share their warmth, enthusiasm and who serve with such spirit, THANK YOU.
