As most of you are aware Natika Bock came to the worship service on Sunday to give a brief explanation of the Kikékyelc Housing Project which the LMO Metis association is building on Singh St. It is the local recipient of this year’s Advent Tree of Joy.
When I was speaking with Natika she asked if we would be interested in showing support of the project to the City Councillors as they are receiving push-back from the surrounding neighbourhood, and there will be a public meeting, probably in January.
Natika has asked two things: firstly, that as many people as possible attend the public meeting to show support, and secondly, that we send letters of support to city council. Towards this second ask, she has attached two templates of letters which could be used. I will ask Natika if there is a date set for the public meeting.
Since Global has chosen to support this project with this year’s Giving Tree, and the Indigenous Relations Group is actively working towards building community with indigenous people in Kamloops, it seems a natural fit that we at KUC would show our support for this project.
I am forwarding Natika’s message with the letters attached. If you wish to show your support, please fill one out and forward it to Natika. Also, forward the request to others as you wish.
Blessings of the Christmas Season, Diane
Natika Bock’s Letter:
Hi Diane, Thank you so much for supporting our housing. I have attached two templates that can be used and if folks can fill them out that would be wonderful. The option is either email them directly to me or I can come and pick up the letters. These letters will be given to the City of Kamloops, as part of a response to a recent petition opposing our housing development.
Thank you for having me on Sunday.
Respectfully and Maarsii,
Natika Bock, BSc (Hons), BEd
