November has been a busy month at Kamloops United. It is a good thing that there were five weeks to contain it all! We had the Fall Fair, Bill’s Bannock Café, cookie making, a Talking Circle, and Ringing in Christmas Bells to name only a few. A special thank you this month to the volunteers in the Thrift Shop for their energy and commitment, to the UCW for making the Fall Fair such a success, to George Johnson for leading the ‘Fishing Tips’ book study, and to Discovery Circle and the Soup & Sandwich group for the Newcomers Luncheon. Thank you also to Margot Fiddes-Waldon, Don and Marg for the gift of two beautiful new banners for the sanctuary.
At the November council meeting the discussion was focused in several important areas, most noteworthy reviewing a draft budget for 2018, and approval of the revised Objectives & Goals for 2017-2018. The Objectives state:
– Offer worship and learning experiences that inspire and excite.
– Make hospitality a priority ~ Hospitality with Spirit!!
– Create an awesome experience for volunteers.
– Care for each other through times of sadness and joy.
– Maintain the property, emphasize stewardship and evaluate for quality.
– Put KUC on the radar as a great community and spiritual resource.
The goals describe how we plan to achieve the objectives. You can locate a copy of the Objectives & Goals on the website under “About Us”, Guiding Documents”. They will also be posted on the bulletin board at the church. We hope our plans for the coming year might inspire you.
Early in the New Year council will study and prepare to vote on Remit #6 in February. Read an article in the October 2017 Observer Magazine for some background information ‘Toward a new-look church’. Remit 6 One Order of Ministry, Remit 6 Study Guide One Order. For more information go to the United Church of Canada website and search for General Council Remit 6. (Remit: a vote to make a constitutional change).
We hope you enjoy the Advent season as it unfolds and that you might share the expression of this year’s Giving Tree and “Share the Joy”.
