Cultural Safety Consultant Coming Soon!
The Indigenous Peoples’ Ministry at KUC is pleased to announce that Terri Mindel has been hired to work part-time this fall on contract as a Cultural Safety Consultant. KUC received a national United Church grant to carry out this next step of our reconciliation plan that was begun with Ian McLean and continued with Alix Dolson.
Part of KUC’s reconciliation plan is to undergo a process of investigating and implementing cultural safety at the Church. Cultural safety is a new term to many of us and we will have an opportunity to learn more about it this fall. The role of the Cultural Safety Consultant is to assess the Church’s operations and approach, and provide a report making specific recommendations on how cultural safety could be improved and implemented at KUC.
Terri is of First Nations descent from the Kutenai Nation. She lives in Chase now, after living in the north for twenty five years, working with Aboriginal people. She is married and has six children and five grandchildren. Terri is looking forward to meeting everyone and assisting KUC to continue to be a model for cultural safety and competency. We warmly welcome Terri to KUC!
