KUC ~ a centre for community and spiritual discovery, along with Rick W, the PIT Stop Coordinator, is preparing to celebrate on June 11!
2017 is a milestone year for PIT Stop as it is the 20th anniversary of this amazing community service. The program is vibrant and impactful – just as it was in 1997.
Kamloops United Church could not and would not have had this outreach program succeed without volunteers from the wider community. I (Rick W., KUC’s P.I.T. Stop Coordinator) estimate that there are in excess of 500 people who are current volunteers – there is no way of knowing how many more people have been involved over the last 20 years.
To show appreciation for all of the volunteers, we are planning a celebration day on Sunday June 11. To launch this celebration, Rev. Bruce Comrie and myself will attend the Kamloops City Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 2 to receive an official proclamation to make June 5 – 11, 2017, ‘PIT Stop Community Outreach Program Week’ in the city of Kamloops. The meeting will be at 1:30 at City Hall and everyone is invited to attend.
From May 30 – June 13, there will be a banner hung at 3rd & Victoria to help deliver the message of thanks.
Bruce and I will be discussing this significant event with Jim Harrison on NL Radio on May 30 at 9:08 am, with Susan Edgell on Midday Show also on May 30, and will be doing a studio session with Shelley Joyce on CBC Daybreak Kamloops on May 31 with airing time yet to be announced.
On Sunday June 11, after regular church service and at approximately 11:30 we will have some discussion and tributes at Kamloops United Church and at about noon will have a community lunch in the parking lot kitty corner to the church – old Daily News Lot – with United Steelworkers Local 7619 providing a barbeque. We would like to invite each one of you to please come and enjoy some fare with us.
As well and as normal, there will be a regular PIT Stop meal on June 11 at 3:30. Thank you Sheryl G. and Southwest Community Church Team.
Lastly, please like and share our PIT Stop Kamloops page on Facebook. It was just recently created and we hope to share further messages through this social media outlet.
Many, many thanks to all of you. Please come and share June 11 with us.
Rick W., P.I.T. Stop Coordinator
