From the new KUC Resource Centre Coordinator, Cathie Yingling….
KUC’s “Discovery Circle” has invited me to organize a Resource Centre for KUC. My background in Resources is as staff of the Audio Visual Library at BC Conference for eight years. Also, my volunteer involvement over the years at the Conference and National level in various levels of the church gives me some experience with resources and where to find them. I need your help though. I am a recent member of Kamloops United Church so I am not familiar with your needs or even who needs the resources. I would appreciate any assistance and I will be around most Sundays during August, so please come and talk to me.
The Vision for the Resource Centre is to provide resources for all members of the church. The hope is that these resources will facilitate members in their work in the church. In planning a Resource Centre we want to ensure that the centre will serve a useful purpose. To accomplish that goal, we need to hear from you to find out what information is most helpful. We hope to have access to the United Church internet/Youtube information—but what else do you need? Where do you currently get information? Again I need your assistance in enabling us to achieve our goal.
The other goal is to provide a smaller place for meetings and training smaller groups. We could use some extra furnishings; if anyone knows where we can locate a small round coffee-style table we would appreciate hearing from you.
Lastly, a thank you to Arleen Simmons for her help in editing and relocating the book display and for her devotion to maintaining the Library for so many years. We hope to be able to maintain someone at the Centre 1-2 days a week and of course you can access the Resource Centre through the reception volunteers or front office staff.
