RAFT thankful for “language support”
RAFT (Refugees And Friends Together) founded by Kamloops United Church’s Refugee Resettlement Committee, is grateful to Arabic speaking individuals who have acted as language support in our sponsorship of refugees from Syria. In June we gathered to thank those who worked with RAFT in our sponsorship work. Hills of Peace Lutheran and Rev. Jane Gingrich (a member of RAFT) hosted this event which included a social time, a challenging game that embodied some of the struggles encountered around language, lovely eats and expressions of gratitude, including giving certificates of appreciation. RAFT continues to await the arrival of three more families from Syria, and would be delighted to have more Arabic speaking people to work with our volunteers and the new Canadians. (RAFT can be contacted through raft@kamloopsunited.ca)
