During today’s communion service, Reverend Bruce paid tribute to the tremendous achievements and contributions of the Honourable Len Marchand Sr. who passed away on June 3, 2016.
The title of Reverend Bruce’s Reflection was the following: “Thirty Years Later” where he reflected on the stages of reconciliation of the United Church of Canada with First Nations.
Also, Ian McLean presented two plaques to Iris Davies, Representative of Council Circle, as well as other members of the congregation, as symbolic reminders of the process of ongoing reconciliation with our First Nations.
The first plaque displays the 1986 apology to First Nations Peoples by the United Church of Canada and the 1998 apology to former students of United Church Indian Residential Schools, and to their families and communities.
The second plaque explains the Revisions to the United Church of Canada CREST to reflect the inclusion of Aboriginal Peoples.
****These plaques will be displayed in a prominent location in our church.
