Wéytk Wednesday’s guest speaker May 18 Nathan Matthew (former Executive Director of TRU Aboriginal Education and present chief of Simpw First Nation), was a very informative event. Nathan took us on a short journey though the European Colonization of Canada, history of theSecwepemc people and territory, the Treaty Process with its unique British Columbia challenges, and some personal stories and milestones. Reconciliation he noted can only begin if people care enough to engage in the process.
We had a spirited and very helpful question and response time after Nathan’s presentation. Nineteen of us were very grateful for his time, energy, enthusiasm and honesty. Our learning about building relationships and what reconciliation can mean continues!
