A dozen people gathered in an informal circle to meet our First Nations guest, Frank Antoine.  Frank is the cultural director at the Quaaout Lodge.  He also does a lot of youth mentoring and appreciates telling stories.  Frank began his time in the circle with drumming and song, and stories of his special drum and the importance of drumming and song in First Nations culture.  He shared some of his life story, with an open heart and lovely sense of humour.  Frank also spoke about the Truth and Reconciliation report, its process and its hopefulness.

Ian McLean, facilitator of this and other “Wéytk Wednesdays” at Kamloops United Church, is leading a new ministry for KUC, “Right Relations with Aboriginal Peoples”.      Wéytk Wednesdays will be held once per month at Kamloops United Church on the third Wednesday unless otherwise announced.   These events will be varied and will include guest speakers, circle gatherings, workshop formats or audio visual presentations. 

*Wéytk is a Secwepemctsin (Eastern Dialect) word of the Secwepemc People and translates to the English “hello.”
