Hope: Locally, Nationally, & Internationally
Every year, the Global & Community Action Committee puts up a Christmas tree at KUC, and it is decorated in a theme appropriate for Advent. This year, it is the Tree of Hope. How do you express Hope for your family, friends, community and the world?
Funds donated during Advent for the Advent Tree project are divided into three different projects. This year, the projects are as follows:
Locally, the KUC Refugee Resettlement Committee working with RAFT (Refugees And Friends Together) will be sponsoring 3 families from Syria. Money donated will go towards supporting them during the first year of their new life in Kamloops.
Nationally, we will support the UC Gifts with Vision Catalogue project, “Support Youth Friendship” for registration and travel to a right relations youth experience. Twenty indigenous youth will be invited to attend Neechii, a five-day summer camp at the Sandy-Salteaux Spiritual Centre, ON.
Internationally, we are supporting the United Church of Canada by donating to their refugee fund helping Syrian refugees overseas. The donation to the United Church of Canada for Syrian Refugee Relief will be matched dollar for dollar by the Federal Government as long as the donation is made by Dec.27
Specially marked envelopes for the Tree of Hope will be available before service or at the Welcome Desk. Place envelopes into Offering box,or during the work week, drop off envelopes at the KUC Office.
Thank you for your support for these very worthwhile causes, which are just a few of the examples of HOPE IN ACTION in our world.
The photo to the right is of the “Tree of Hope” decorations that Jan Vint, one of the “Global and Community Outreach” members, created for this year’s tree. On the first Sunday of Advent, those attending worship had the opportunity to write a special hope they have on the back of the ornament (if they wished), and we decorated the tree.
Specially marked envelopes are to be found in the basket under the tree. Financial gifts for the projects outlined above are to be put in the envelopes and placed in the KUC Offering Box.
The photo of the tree is a picture from a previous year.
