Welcome to Worship at Kamloops United Church
Last Sunday of Lent – Palm Sunday – April 13, 2014
We Gather as People of God
Hymn Sing and Welcome
Centering Music: ‘Bread of Angels’ by W.A. Payn with the Bells of Note Lighting the Christ and Lenten Candles and the Procession of the Prayer Box
Call to Worship:
Humble and riding on a donkey, we greet you.
Acclaimed by crowds, we cheer you.
Speaking truth to power, we salute you O Christ.
You are giving the beasts of burden a new dignity.
You are giving majesty a new face.
You are giving those who long for you a new song to sing. With them, with heart and voice, we shout ‘Hosanna!’
Singing: Voices United # 124 ‘He Came Riding on a Donkey’
A Lenten Candle Liturgy
People, so many people lining the street,
branches waving, voices shouting,
hoping for the Holy One of God.
God sees our excitement, knows our need and will provide. Let us journey through the shadows toward the light.
(a candle is extinguished)
Sung Response: V.U. # 108 ‘Throughout These Lenten Days and Nights’ verse 6
Prayer of Confession
O Holy One, as we gather on this Palm Sunday we come before you. We acknowledge that at times we have missed your mark. Sometimes we follow you joyfully with shouts of ‘Hosanna, Hosanna.’
And at other times we go our own way with shouts of, ‘Crucify him, Crucify him.’
We come before you in need of your grace and healing love.
Help us to take a long, loving look at our reality.
To name it and to ask for what we need and to trust you will provide.
We ask for this grace we pray.
Singing: More Voices # 85 ‘Take, O Take Me As I Am’
An Assurance of God’s Love
My friends when we are fully present God can work with us. When we take a long, loving look at our reality God can work with us. It is then that God can work with us and through us and despite us. This is the wonder of grace. May we accept this grace, trusting in God’s goodness and love in our lives and in the life of the world.
Thanks be to God.
Time for All Ages

Our Pastoral Prayers followed by the Lord’s Prayer (Voices United # 959)
Our prayers today are very simple.
I will offer a few words and you can offer your prayers in the silence as you wish. Let’s pray:
This morning we pray for your creation…..
We pray for our world and community….
We pray for your church and those of other faiths and all your children…. We pray for those on our hearts…
We pray for those named through our prayer box….and others on our hearts and minds….
We offer all our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ who taught us to pray as we sing together….Our Father…
We Are Sent Forth To Serve

Go forth from here to live in the present.
Go forth to choose whom you will wave your branches for. Go forth to follow the peace of the Prince of Peace.
Let’s go forth singing…
