What I’m Reading
AN INVITATION FROM FAITH FORMATION:
With the KUC library now on the lower level and less accessible until Phase 2 is completed, Faith Formation hopes that those interested in spiritual reading are continuing to find books (and videos, DVD’s, etc.) of interest. To encourage such reading (and viewing), Faith Formation invites any one to share a brief review of a book under the heading … “WHAT I’M READING”. Sylvia W. offers the following book review.
WHAT I’M READING…
Jesus: Uncovering the Life, Teachings, and Relevance of a Religious Revolutionary by Marcus Borg
For the past month I have read and re-read this book. Borg describes the shaping of Jesus by the Jewish Bible, the culture and the political environment of that day. This occurs from Jesus’ childhood to his baptism and Jesus conviction that he must bring the message of “experiencing” God, and a new way of thinking to others.
For me, this book has broadened my knowledge of Jesus. It has opened up new thoughts and clarified other ideas. e.g. The pre-Easter and post-Easter Jesus and just exactly what he means to me.
I do not understand all of Borg’s ideas, but this book has made me rethink some of my own biblical ideas and has given me a new outlook. I would recommend this book for a new perspective on the life of Jesus and his message for us today. I could go back and read it one more time!
