Lady Wisdom: the Feminine Face of the Divine. Lecturer: Dr. Patricia Dutcher-Walls
Sunday February 23, 2014 at 7 pm at St. Paul’s Cathedral 360 Nicola St. Kamloops.
The wisdom traditions of ancient Israel contain a sustained and repeated representation of Lady Wisdom, a feminine image of God’s interactions with humanity. References to this feminine image start in the early wisdom writings as a metaphor of wisdom calling humanity to learn. Later, the image develops into a full-blown personification of Wisdom as a female emanation of God. We’ll trace this image through the ages in the world of ancient Israel and listen for the playfulness associated with the Lady Wisdom. Participants will have a chance to read and understand some of the wisdom texts that develop this idea.
