Once upon a time (Aug. 28th, 2013 to be exact) a new Council Circle group, commissioned in June met in retreat. Our theme for the day was “Making All Things New”.
We spent much of the day exploring the “how” and the “why” of developing KUC as a Centre for Spiritual Growth (an idea expressed at a congregational Table Talk event earlier in the year).
We agreed to take on several tasks to kick start this idea. For example, the Soup ‘n’ Sandwich event on the first Wednesday of every month… the bulletin board, as you enter the building, that clearly displays who we are… the family spaghetti dinner to celebrate out new “home” space… the Believe play at Christmastime.
We were so very excited to find, as the financial figures came in for 2013, that we have a surplus that will enable us to pay back the monies that were “borrowed” from various budget categories and to start 2014 with a clean slate. We are humbled by the generous Spirit that moves through the congregation creating an attitude of gratitude.
We have created a monthly Council Report and biweekly “Did You Know” box in our News of Note as well as individual contact with our various group ministries in an attempt to listen, to celebrate and to inform our faith community as we journey along the path to being a Centre of Spiritual Growth.
We have committed ourselves to exploring our personal faith journeys, beginning with several agreeing to attend a Diana Butler Bass Lenten lecture series in Kelowna (Apr. 11&12). Recently, we helped initiate a “live streamed” airing of several lectures presented during Epiphany Explorations in Victoria. Twenty-five to thirty folk attended, taking yet another opportunity to deepen our spiritual base.
Hey, not bad for six months! We celebrate where we have been and then we get busy with the task of “visioning” the future.
