Call to Worship
The legs of the crickets rub together and the wings of insects beat out praise.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Earth dances with your wisdom.
The leaves rustle in the wind and the flowers bloom in exultation.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Earth revels in your glory.
The lion roars and the gazelle leaps in joy.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Creation amazes in your inspiration.
The whale intones ballads from the deep and the lark lilts at dawn.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Creation sings your song.
Let us celebrate with all creation in worship this morning.
O Creator God, on this Fauna and Flora Sunday in the Season of Creation and Pentecost we come before you in worship. We gather to be with one another as your people. We gather in this part of the garden that you have given us to till and to tend. We gather with other species as part of your great web of life. We gather trusting that we are all connected to you and to one another. As we gather, help us to sing your praise in the midst of all creation, we pray. Amen.
Singing: Voices United # 229 ‘God of the Sparrow’
Prayer of Confession:
O Great Provider and Creator, We confess that we have been harmful to the plants and animals with which we share this great garden. We have trampled on the grass and not stopped to revel in its flowers. We have treated the magpies as an annoyance and not paused to appreciate their beauty. O God, help us to see each living thing as a testimony to your wisdom and a witness to your abundant love. We come before you in prayer…Amen.
Singing: More Voices # 21 ‘Open Our Hearts’ (x2)
An Assurance of God’s Love:
Why do we worry? God provides for all of creation, from the thinnest blades of grass to the biggest birds in the air, God cares for them all. And God cares for each of us too, just as we are. May the freedom and forgiveness of God’s grace be with you and with us all. Amen.
A Time for All Ages
Singing: More Voices # 144 ‘Like a Healing Stream’
We Listen for God’s Living Word

Reflection: ‘Creation Connections’ – Rev. D. Bruce Comrie
We Respond in Faith
Singing: More Voices # 41 ‘O Beautiful Gaia’
The Passing of the Peace: May the Peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.
As we make our offering today, we do so in the context of creation and the world. Even though we live in a beautiful world, we know that creation is groaning and the world is suffering too. When we make our offering we are saying that we want to work with God through our church to care for others and our planet. Some of our money goes to our local congregation to carry out our mission and ministry here. And some of it goes to the wider church and our partners around the world through our Mission and Service Fund. Our offering does make a difference in our local and global community. As we make our offering, may we give with grateful and generous hearts and hands.
Doxology: More Voices # 191 ‘What Can I Do?’ (x2)
Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication:
As we make our offering we give thanks for these gifts of our hands, our hearts, our whole lives. May they be used for God’s mission and ministry of healing and wholeness close to home and around the world. And may we be used for the work of ministry in those places where we live and work and play. We ask for this grace, Amen.
Our Pastoral Prayers followed by the Lord’s Prayer (Voices United # 959):
Creator God, we marvel at the biodiversity of your creation. By science we know that we are connected to everything. By faith we trust you call us to care for all that you have entrusted to us. Be with us as we figure out our rightful place in the midst of your creation….we pray….
O Prince of Peace, we come before you worried about the state of the nations. We think especially about Syria and the horrors of that continuing conflict. We pray for all who have died or are injured….for the millions who are displaced in their country and for those who are now refugees outside of Syria. We pray that a peaceful solution might be found and for relief to come to the suffering of so many. Help us to do our part in whatever way we can….
O Sustaining Spirit, we offer our prayers for those who are ill, those who are grieving, those who are going through difficult transitions and times of stress. We pray for those who are dealing with addiction, poverty, homelessness…We offer to you today those who have been named through our prayer box… and we offer prayers for others and for ourselves…We ask all our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ who taught us to pray as we sing together, the Lord’s Prayer….
