We Gather as People of God
Music for Centering, Lighting of the Christ Candle & Procession of the Prayer Box
Call to Worship: On this late September Sunday, we gather for many reasons. We gather to offer our worship and to pause during the week. We gather to sense the presence of the Holy in our midst. We gather to be with one another, to be in Christian community and to know that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves. We gather for many reasons. And so, in our diversity and in our unity, let us be here now, in this place, in this time to worship in the name of God: the Creator, Christ and Spirit. Let’s pray our opening prayer…
O God, our refuge and fortress, our shelter and strength, we dwell in your shadow and trust in your presence. Grant us safety under your wings, protect us from the terror of the night, and the dangers of the day. Teach us, God, to know you and love you. Encourage us to call on you. Be with us in times of trouble. Save us from all that would separate us from you. Open us to your Spirit we pray. Amen.
Singing: More Voices # 28 ‘God of the Bible’
Prayer for Healing and Renewal (during our prayers…times of silence for personal reflection)
God of all humanity and all creatures, creator of heaven and earth, you have given us Moses, and the prophets, and Jesus the Christ to teach us your way, to instruct us how we are to live our lives.
And yet, we are confused, resistant, and fearful. You call us to be faithful in all things, including our money, O God. Hear our confusion and fears we confess…
You call us to recognize our neighbours in need and to care for them. Hear our confusion and fears we confess….
You call us to invest in your future, to trust your promise that you will always be with us no matter what. Hear our confusion and fears we confess…
We struggle to trust you, O God. Forgive us. Diminish our fears with your spirit of power, love and strength. Renew us we pray. Amen.
Singing: More Voices # 21 ‘Open Our Hearts’ (x2)
An Assurance of God’s Love
Friends, we have called to God, and confessed the struggles of our hearts. Now, let us trust God’s promise to be with us in our troubles and to protect us like a mother eagle shelters her young in the shadow of her wings. Let us trust that our true security comes from God now and always.

Our Offering with Doxology:
Let us bring to God – the best of ourselves. Let us bring to God the deepest of our hurts. Let us bring to God our joys and our sorrows. And in response to God’s love let us offer our gifts in thanksgiving and praise. Let us share together in our morning offering.
Singing: More Voices # 191 ‘What Can I Do?’ (x2)
Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication
O Loving God, with this offering we bring our very lives in commitment and dedication to the way of mercy and compassion. With tender hearts, we commit ourselves to listen to the troubled, to support the grieving, and to love the hurting. May these gifts become Christ’s arms of acceptance and heart of healing we pray. Amen.
Our Pastoral Prayers followed by the Lord’s Prayer (Voices United # 959)
O Holy One, by faith we trust that you are the creator of all. Deepen our faith that you provide for our needs. Help us to see and to share with our neighbours in need. May your ways of compassion and justice be our ways as well. Be with us we pray…
O Creator God, as we hear from scientists about the warming of our planet, help us to be good stewards of your creation and all that you have entrusted to us…..
O Jesus, the Christ, you show us that we are beloved children of God and that your healing, reconciling Spirit is at work in the world. May your spirit of peace with justice be embodied in the nations, especially in those places of violence, terror and war: Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kenya and other places as well…We pray for your peace…
O Empowering and Sustaining Spirit, you come to us in some many ways…in our joys, in our sorrows and in our times in between…We hold before you those who coping with health issues…those who are grieving…those going through stressful transitions…those who are close to our hearts…we pray for ourselves…and those named through our prayer box….
O Creator, Christ and Spirit we offer our prayers to you today as we sing together the Lord’s Prayer…..

Commissioning and Benediction (based on 1 Timothy)
May God, who gives life to all things and richly provides us with everything we need, grant us all godliness combined with contentment. Through the love of Christ, the blessed Sovereign, may we be rich in good works, generous and ready to share. And by the power of the Holy Spirit, may we take hold of the life that really is life, the life of righteousness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness, both now and forever. Let’s go in peace. Let’s sing….
