CALL TO WORSHIP
We gather, O God, to seek your presence
We gather, O God, to seek understanding
We gather, O God, to be transformed.
We gather, O God, to worship you.
Come into the presence of God. Come, let us worship!
Our God, as a gentle rain soaks the earth, may your peace and love fall upon us, bringing growth and life. Soak into our innermost being. Quiet all that makes us anxious. Help us to linger in your presence, and send us out refreshed, to carry your peace to others. Amen
HYMN – More Voices # 79 ‘Spirit Open My Heart’
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O God of mystery, we confess that, more than deep questions,
we love easy answers; explaining away miracles, disarming the Good News, we domesticate your wild ways.
Teach us to love our questions, O God.
Teach us to struggle with faith.
Teach us to live with your holy mysteries.
SUNG AFFIRMATION More Voices #95 ‘How Deep the Peace’
How deep the peace, the confidence,
Of those whose wrongs are forgiven.
How deep the peace, the confidence,
Of those whose hearts are healed.
(The children may move to the area of the sanctuary set aside for their activities, if they like.)
We Listen for God’s Living Word
The Gospel of Matthew 15: 10-28 Jesus encounters the Canaanite woman
Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
Thanks be to God!

OUR OFFERING with OFFERTORY MUSIC
HYMN OF DEDICATION More Voices #191 ‘What Can I Do?’
PRAYER of DEDICATION
God of all peoples and God of all places, we present these offerings that they may be used to extend your liberating reign. With them, we offer our varied ministries, that each of us may be part of your answer to the cries of the world. Amen.
OUR PASTORAL PRAYERS with the LORD’S PRAYER (Sung – Voices United # 959)
To You who called the heavens and the earth into being we say thank you.
To You who formed each creature in their vast diversity, we say thank you.
To you who, from the dust of the earth, created humanity that we might be in relationship with you, we say thank you.
Thank you for all that you are and for all that you call us to be.
For the world in its constant state of turmoil, we pray for peace.
For world leaders, seeking power to the detriment of the collective, we pray for compassion.
For countries and peoples ravaged by poverty, hunger and environmental destruction, we pray for hope.
For the wealthy who seek only for themselves, we pray for justice.
For your church as we struggle to discern new ways of being in the world, we pray for wisdom.
For St. Stephen’s Shared Ministry – Sorrento and their minister – Bruce Chalmers, we pray for their continued commitment to be your voice in their community.
For the peoples of the Polynesian Islands, we pray for your healing and justice.
For the sick in body or mind, we pray for healing and name them aloud or in the quiet of our hearts
For the dying we pray for peace.
For the grieving, we pray for comfort.
And for those whom you call to walk in the radical footprints of Jesus, we pray for courage.
And now, Holy One, may your Spirit be upon us as we seek to live in your kindom-way today and every day. In the name of the Radical One we pray. As together we sing the prayer Jesus taught his disciples
HYMN – More Voices #213 ‘Take Up His Song’
COMMISSIONING and BENEDICTION
May we go into the world this week, proclaiming with our mouths what our heart knows so well – That we are all beloved children of God, forgiven and blessed that we might be a blessing to all whom God places in our path.
Go in peace. Go in joy. Go in hope. Amen!
SUNG CLOSING – More Voices # 209 ‘Go Make a Diff’rence’ (Chorus)
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
