BANFF MEN’S CONFERENCE
THEME: “Here I Am” The Courage to be Known in Community
Come and take part in a revolutionary event…Building upon 55 years of serving men, the 2011 conference will be an experiment in community building, storytelling, and listening. Creativity, Interaction, and Embodiment will be the hallmarks of a new way forward. The medium will be the message; we ourselves will be the theme: men courageously reaching, receiving and moving into new ways of being in community…where unimagined presence and growth are possible.

Accommodations are your responsibility to book at the Lodge. Call directly at 1-800-661-9266

UPDATE ON REDEVELOPMENT
Vision 421 is waiting for the City of Kamloops to approve the Development Permit Application. Once approved the application then goes on to a public meeting regarding the rezoning for the housing component. This process did not occur in July as hoped but is currently slated for August. Provided there is no public opposition to the rezoning request, and with the understanding that the City may require still further changes, we anticipate receiving the Development Permit in September.
Concurrently, we have been pursuing financing for the total project (both Phase I and II) through BC Housing and conventional lending institutions. This has been a slow process, but we are optimistic that we can secure the financing this fall, which will allow construction to begin in early 2012.
Given both of these time-frames, we anticipate that Services will continue in the Sanctuary and the office will remain in its current location until the New Year. We appreciate the support shown to us and the patience demonstrated by everyone in the congregation as we work to bring this project to “life”.
As we have stated before, if anyone has any questions or wishes clarification on what is happening, please contact any of the Directors of Vision 421.

NEEDED – HELP WITH CHILDREN ON SUNDAYS – From September until June each year, the children at KUC enjoy the leadership of Dawn Aziz and follow the Godly Play curriculum during Children’s Church. However in the summer months, this program ceases and children remain in the worshipping space. The Faith Formation Core Ministry is seeking the help of adult or teen volunteers for the Sundays from August 7 until September 4 to sit (usually on the floor) with any children who are present. Play dough and an activity cart are provided. Please consider volunteering one Sunday – a sign up sheet is available on the Action Table, along with instructions. (Thanks from the FF Group.)

RIDES TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY MORNING
Recently we have had some requests for rides to church for some of our seniors who do not drive or live within walking distance of KUC. This issue arises periodically and it would seem to be a very caring act of outreach to provide a roster of names we might call on for regular or occasional rides to church. If each area of Kamloops had a few or several names offering rides no one would have to feel obligated for every Sunday and the onus for requesting rides would lie with the person who needs the ride.
If you would be willing to let your name stand on such a roster for rides in your general area of Kamloops would you please give me a call or email. Arleen Simmonds 250-374-2135 email waskamloops@shaw.ca
If you have a need for a ride or know someone who does the above contact information can also be used.

If you are presently an usher, a greeter, and/or a scripture reader – or if you are able to assist with any of these important Sunday tasks – please mark your calendar for an important workshop to be held on Saturday, Sept. 17th from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Since our services will be in the gym for a time while renovations take place it is important for us to review and update our knowledge for ushers and greeters especially and training for scripture readers is always important. KUC EXCURSION
Here is this week’s clue for those folk who have signed up for the KUC Excursion for Friday, August 26th:
At our destination:
“The first apple trees were planted in early 1909 and over the years the orchard acreage expanded by approximately 250 acres yearly until 1,246 acres had been planted by 1914. The crops attempted were numerous and varied. Over the years most of the common orchard species were planted as well as more exotic crops such as tobacco but apples were deemed best. Vegetables were grown between the rows of trees and various of them did well enough to be exported.”
