Meditation for Personal Preparation:
“Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging.” ~ Joseph Campbell
“Opposition is a natural part of life. Just as we develop our physical muscles through overcoming opposition – such as lifting weights – we develop our character muscles by overcoming challenges and adversity.” ~ Stephen R. Covey
“Death is a challenge. It tells us not to waste time… It tells us to tell each other right now that we love each other.”~ Leo F. Buscaglia

Lighting of the Christ Candle & Procession of our Prayers with Music for Centering
Call to Worship & Gathering Prayer:
In the midst of summer visitors; tending gardens and soaking up sun and rain;
We come here to tend our souls, and soak up some divine energy.
We have basked in the heat of the sun;
We bask in the light of your love.
May the sacred break we take from work and play this day
renew our energy, revive our spirits, and realign our centre.
In this time of prayer and song; of story and reflection; of challenge and nurture,
may we be opened to your healing, reconciling, rejuvenating presence.
Open our hearts to you, to each other and to your world.
Open our hearts to joy, to gratitude, to wisdom, to love.
And the people say, Amen.
Hymn: VU#415 “God We Praise You for the Morning”
Prayer for Healing & Renewal:
Holy Love, you know we would more often prefer
to walk the road of least resistance; hang out on easy street
But you ask us to walk the high road;
to take the road less traveled; to walk in the footsteps of Jesus…
Why can’t Easy Street be your street?
Why can’t the road less traveled be paved with gold?
Somewhere along the line, God, someone told us that if we believed in you; if we followed all the rules; if we kept our noses clean and walked that relatively deserted road with you by our side; with you leading the way; with you watching our back; with you carrying us, that life and love would be easy – clean – blessed. And we so wish that were true. But we know, wonderful as your path is to walk, it is littered with temptation,
with grief and loss, with challenge and conflict,
with too many confusing choices,
and sometimes with absolutely nothing.
Some days, Least Resistance Street beckons. Some days,
we experience road rage on the path less traveled.
Some days, we are amazed you never seem to tire of our constant, whiny question:
“Are we there yet?”
Some days, we forget that what is important is not our destination,
but the quality of the journey itself:
We forget it is about how well we travel? How well we care for our travelling companions on the road? It’s about
who we invite to go with us;
Who is in the driver’s seat; and asking,
Are we still moving forward on your path?
Are we resting when needed; are we still moving at all?…. Holy love, speak to our hearts as we journey together…
Sung Response: VU#649 “Walk With Me” – tune Chorus
Walk with me; I will walk with youand build a land that God has planned where love shines through.
Walk with Love; let us walk in Light Come hold my hand, let’s join the band; sing God’s delight.
Listen to the good news: Though we sometimes stumble; though we sometimes wander; though we want to drive, speed up, slow down, turn around; though we sometimes want to stop altogether, God still loves us; God loves through us; and God keeps inviting us on this sometimes crazy, hazy, always worth it, healing and awesome journey…just because. For this and for so much more, we say:
Thanks be to God! Amen.

We Respond in Faith
Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Passing of the Peace:
This is no ordinary, lip-service, off-handed peace that we offer to one another in this moment. The peace we extend to and receive from one another isn’t marked by forced silence or compliance at gunpoint. It isn’t a peace that is conditional, depending on our completion of tasks or meeting of expectations. It isn’t short-lived, nor is it short-loved. It isn’t without equitable justice, or compassion. This peace is for everyone; without condition. This peace is imbued with love and justice and compassion. This peace is an offering, a request and an acceptance of forgiveness; an acknowledgment of grace. This peace is the result and the reason for a grateful, secure heart. This is the peace we extend to and receive from one another. This peace is AMAZING! May the Peace of Christ be with you all…
…And also with you.
Offering: Let us now prepare the work of our hands for the life of this church and Christ’s church in the world. The offering shall now be received.
Gift of Song: “Go to the World” – revised
Presentation Song: VU#541 “Praise God From Whom..”
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
praise God, all creatures high and low;
give thanks to God in love made known:
Creator, Word and Spirit, One.
Prayer of Dedication:
Bless our resources, our talents and skills, our best intentions, our time and energy, our prayers… that they and we
be used to heal the hearts, bodies and spirits of the broken;
that they and we
be light in the darkness that brings the lost and wandering home;
that they and we
be the voice, feet and hands of justice and compassion;
that they and we
be food for the hungry and fresh water for the thirsty;
for the sake of the world you so cherish. In Christ’s name we pray,
Hymn of Thanksgiving: VU#713 “I See a New Heaven”
We Are Sent Forth
Commissioning & Benediction:
“Go forth from here with your arms wide open, your heads held high,
and with laughter and love in your hearts.
Each one of you is beautiful, and is loved by God.
No matter what happens, always remember that.
Go out and follow your dreams, and if your dreams go up in smoke,
build new dreams and follow them.
Go out and change your world as Christ has changed your life.
And as you go, know that God,
Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer,
goes with you – today, tomorrow and always. ”
And the people say…Amen.
